DON’T

Pack like you’re running away from home. You’re going to someplace fabulous, not a shelter. Pack like a pro and you’ll never overpack (models often stuff two weeks’ worth of clothes into one carry-on!). Some tips: Stuff your boots and shoes with your socks and stockings; a scarf can be used around your neck one day and as a belt the next day, so pack one that can do double duty. Roll your clothes instead of folding them. And always pack a pair of tights, a black cardigan, a pair of skinny pants, a pencil skirt, and black high heels—they go with everything and mix and match well.

Stand in line like cattle at the airline’s check-in desk. Don’t even bother with the self-serve electronic kiosks, either. The only serving going on here should be that of an airline employee serving you. Drop your luggage at the curbside check-in and snicker at everyone else as you saunter by them on the way to security.

If you’re stuck in coach, don’t fret. Rock stars spend a fair amount of time there too. But under no circumstances should you put up with any of the following: a screaming baby, a toddler kicking the back of your seat, an overweight sloth infringing on your personal space, or anyone behind you whining about you reclining your seat. Ask to be moved immediately. If the flight is full in coach, politely inform the flight attendant that you saw a few empty seats in business class.

Whether you’re on a plane or a tour bus, or chilling backstage or in your hotel suite, duty almost always calls for the following essentials: Downey Wrinkle Releaser (as if you’d even think about ironing), Purell hand sanitizer, Wet Ones baby wipes, a Tide to Go stain removal stick, an iPod, a few good headbands (it fancies up even the messiest of hairdos), a battery-operated curling iron or Velcro curlers, and (if you need it) Xanax.
